These one day courses are specifically designed to fit into the school day.

The pupils were very engaged with activities throughout their day of the course and enjoyed success.  Helen, School liaison Officer for WYMS, engaged well with the pupils and helped them learn very important skills and knowledge, in a fun and interesting way, with the help of “Flat Stan”.  Flat Stan is a bespoke made resuscitation training manikin ideal for Primary school children, adding to the fun the children had.

The Head Teacher, Mrs Hazel Morrison said, “To be equipped and be able to respond in an emergency is a very valuable skill and one that we were delighted to be able to offer to every pupil in primaries 4-7, thanks to Mike and his team and for the support from our Parent Council.

Bun-sgoil Shlèite school staff are set to attend a Paediatric First Aid Course and the Emergency First Aid at Work Course with WYMS in the near future.

Lifesaving Skills Put to the Test 23 years after an NPLQ Course!

Letter of Thanks 25/06/2017

Hi Mike
I hope you are well?

I'm messaging you to say 'thank you'.

I was driving to Preston yesterday (24/06/2017) when, on the opposite side of the road, I came across a car accident that had happened only 5 minutes earlier. It involved 2 cars and a motorbike. The rider of the bike was stationary, he was driven into by a Landrover Defender (who was going at 30mph) and he was thrown forwards, off his bike and his head and upper body went through the rear windscreen of the car in front.

Your voice was the first thing I heard. You took the NPLQ I did when I was 16 (1994). I remember you saying "if ever you come across a motor bike accident, treat the rider as if he/she has a spinal injury". I did.

I found out 5 hours later he had cracked a rib and fractured his back in 2 places. If it hadn't been for his leathers, his helmet and the vice grip I put him in, he may never have walked again.

So thankyou for teaching me a skill that has potentially saved a mans life xx

Cara Craven

Great result Cara, well done! It's my pleasure to teach, but full credit to you here. Mike.

As part of his commitment to CPD and in maintaining his Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) National Trainer Assessor (NTA) awards, Mike visited the RLSS HQ, River House, on 26/07/2013 to attend the NTA CPR and AED workshop.
The workshop aimed to develop NTA excellence in CPR and AED skills. These NTA's will then provide training to the Trainer Assessors in their home locality regions. Only 30 NTA's in the UK have attended the workshops which included a formal application process.

Under the scrutiny of Dr Anthony J Handley MD FRCP, RLSS UK Medical Adviser and member of the ERC and ILCOR Mike received formative CPR and AED updates along with assessments.

The RLSS, through these workshops, and the updating of the trainer assessors through its extensive  UK network is currently "top of the class" when it comes to CPR and AED training.

New look EFAW course is a success

Staff from accountancy firm V & A Vigar Group Ltd recently completed the new look EFAW course and the trainer received astounding feedback. Course participants were a little nervous and wary of completing the course, but Mike (Course Tutor and Director of WYMS) ensured that all participants enjoyed and completed the course successfully. Well done to all.

Company director Amanda Vigar said: “Having nine members of staff with the EFAW qualification is invaluable for the company. It raises us above the Health and Safety Executive’s minimum standards for the amount of first aiders and brings peace of mind whilst at work".

“The only reason we didn’t achieve a full house for advanced H&S trained staff was due to a staff absence.”

“We had the training take place in our Holmfirth offices, so we could create situations that were as realistic as possible so we are prepared should we be required to use the training.”
